Synthesis and characterization of UO22+, ZrO 2+ and Th4+ complexes with 3-(p-substituted aryl)-2-thiohydantoin

A few complexes of the type [ML2(H2O)2] and [ThL2(H2O)2(NO3)2], where M = UO22+ and ZrO2+; HL = 3-benzylideneimino-2-thiohydantoin, 3-p-nitrobenzylideneimino-2-thiohydantoin, 3-p-methoxybenzylideneimino-2-thiohydantoin, 3-p-chlorobenzylideneimino-2- thiohydantoin have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, thermal analysis, conductance, magnetic moment studies and spectroscopic data (1H NMR, IR and electronic). The results indicate that the complexes of UO22+ and ZrO2+ are hexacoordinated where as those of Th4+ ions are octacoordinated.
Synthesis and mass spectra of some aryl aldehyde thiosemicarbazones

THE REACTION of ethyl β-aryl-α-cyanoacrylate (1) with thiosemicarbazide in the presence of potassium carbonate gave arylaldehydethiosemicarbazone (3). Treatment of compound 3 with acetic anhydride, benzoyl chloride and ethyl chloroacetate yielded the corresponding 4-(substituted benzaldehyde-2,4-diacetylthiose-micarbazone) (4), 4-(substituted benzaldehyde -2,4-dibenzoyl thiose micarbazones) (5), and 3-substituted-2- thioxo-imidazolidin-4-one (6). The mass spectral fragmentation patterns of the compounds 3,4,5 and 6 are described.
