Palladium(0)-catalysed cyclisation of 3-acetoxy-1-(4-aminoalkyl)cyclohexenes provides easy access to the 1-azaspiroundecane ring system found in the histrionicotoxins; this has been exploited in a synthesis of (+/-)-depentylperhydrohistrionicotoxin.
