Substituted 3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2,6-methano-2H-1,3-benzoxazocines (II) and 12-oxo-1,2,3,4,9,9a-hexahydro-4a,9-iminoethano-4aH-xanthene-11-carboxamides (V) have been prepared by Michael condensation of 3-(N-arylcarbamyl)coumarins (I) with aliphatic ketones, acetophenone or cyclohexanone in the presence of ammonium acetate or amines at room temperature.Preparations of 1-alkyl(aryl)-2-phenyl-3,4,4a,10b-tetrahydrobenzopyranopyridine-4,5(H)-diones (IV) and 8-alkyl(aryl)-6a,7,8,9,10,11,12,12b-octahydrobenzopyranoquinoline-6(H),7-diones (VI) are also described.The structures assigned are supported by elemental analyses and spectral data (IR, PMR).
