Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) with 4-phenyl-1-cyclohexanone-3-thiosemicarbazone (HPCTS) and 4-benzamido-1-cyclohexanone-3-thiosemicarbazone (HBCTS) have been isolated and characterized. The magnetic and electronic spectral data show that the Ni(II) complex of HPCTS has a square planar, while that of HBCTS has an octahedral structure. The magnetic data confirmed that the copper complex of HPCTS is paramagnetic, while that of HBCTS is diamagnetic, and the cobalt complexes of both ligands have the same structure. The ir cpectra show that HPCTS behaves as a mononegative bidentate ligands in all complexes coordinating trough the azomethine and thioenol groups and HBCTS behaves as a mononegative tridentate ligand via the NH, C=N, and C=O or C=S groups except in the copper(I) complex, where HBCTS behaves as a neutral tetradentate ligand.
