Eleven laterally monosubstituted new liquid crystalline compounds of the types 2-chloro-4'-substituted-4-(4''-alkoxybenzoyloxy)azobenzenes (4), 3-methyl-4'-substituted-4-(4''-alkoxybenzoyloxy)azobenzenes (5) and a disubstituted 2,3-dimethyl-4'-n-butyl-4-(4''-n-butoxybenzoyloxy)azobenzene (6) have been synthesised.These are nematic liquid crystals with enantiotropic character.
