(-)-Humulone, in boiling water in the presence of air, was converted into tricyclic and bicyclic compounds resulting from both isomerisation and oxidation.Oxidation of (-)-humulone with m-chloroperbenzoic acid afforded hydroxydihydropyrano- and 2-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)dihydrofurano-derivatives.Similar oxidations of photoisohumulone gave glycols or bicyclic products, depending upon the conditions.
