The reaction of the sodiochloroamides of sulfonic acids with dibenzoylmethyl aryl sulfides (I) leads to the formation of dibenzoyl(arylsulfonylamino)methyl aryl sulfides, and this results from imination of compounds (I) at the sulfur atom and subsequent transformation of the N-arylsulfonyldibenzoylmethylarylsulfimides which form.The ease of imination of compounds (I) by the sodiochloroamines of sulfonic acids is obviously due to the ability of these compounds to dissociate in polar solvents with the formation of the mesomeric anion of the dibenzoylmethyl aryl sulfide, in which the nucleophilicity of the sulfur is enhanced on account of displacement of electronic charge from the carbon atom.
