Pieces of eight: The reaction of [LAII] with elemental sulfur yields the crown shaped complex [LAI(μS3)2AIL] (L= HC(CMe-NAr)2, Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3) containing an AI2S6 eight-membered ring, in which two (μ-S3) chains are bridging two aluminum atoms (see structure). The relative stabilities of the possible [L2AI2Sn] (n = 2-8) species are estimated by theoretical calculation.
