1,1,4,4-tetrachloro-1-buten-3-one was obtained with a yield of 44percent by the action of fuming nitric acid on 1,1,3,4-tetrachloro-1,3-butadiene.Its reactions with some primary amines and diamines were investigated.It was schown that the two chlorine atoms in the dichlorovinyl group of 1,1,4,4-tetrachloro-1-buten-3-one are substituted.Reaction with amines gives diamino ketones, and reaction with ethylenediamine and o-phenylenediamine gives derivatives of imidazolidine and benzimidazoline containing the CHCl2-CO-CH= group in the side chain.
