CLUSTER CHEMISTRY. IL. FURTHER EXAMPLES OF RUTHENIUM AND OSMIUM CLUSTER CARBONYLS CONTAINING THE OLEFINIC TERTIARY PHOSPHINE PPh2(C6H4CH=CH2-2) (sp): X-RAY STRUCTURE OF Os3H(μ-H)(CO)10(sp)

Reactions between Os3(CO)11(NCMe) or Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2 and PPh2(C6H4CH=CH2-2) (sp) give the P-bonded complex Os3(CO)11(sp) and the chelated complex Os3(CO)10(sp), respectively.Between 100-120 deg C, both complexes form Os3(μ-H)2(μ3-η2,P-HCCC6H4PPh2)(CO)8.With Os3(μ-H)2(CO)10, sp affords P-bonded Os3(μ-H)(H)(CO)10(sp), fully characterised by an X-ray structure.Crystals are triclinic, space group P1, with a 10.546(4), b 11.272(2), c 15.214(4) Angstroem, α 67.63(2), β 73.82(2), γ 74.04(2) deg and Z=2; 3383 data with I2.5?(I) were refined to R=0.032, Rw=0.032.The reaction between sp and Ru3(CO)11(CNBut) gave Ru3(CO)10(sp) and Ru3(CO)9(CNBut)(sp), both containing chelating sp ligands.

In radical-ion initiated reaction, Ru3(CO)12 reacts with 2-Ph2PC6H4CH=CH2(sp) to give Ru3(CO)10(sp) (1), containing the olefinic tertiary phosphine bridging two metal atoms.Gentle heating converts this complex to H2Ru3(μ3-HCCC6H4PPh2)(CO)8 (2), containing an acetylenic tertiary phosphine bridging all three metal atoms.Complex 1 is triclinic, space group P1, a 9.336(3), b 12.598(4), c 13.781(5) Angstroem, α 77.61(3),β 85.01(3), γ 79.10(3) deg, Z = 2; complex 2 is also triclinic, space group P1, a 11.653(6), b 16.284(6), c 17.284(8) Angstroem, α 66.29(3), β82.27(4), γ 88.86(4) deg, Z = 4.The structures were refined to R = 0.056, Rw = 0.059 for 1984 data and to R = 0.036, Rw = 0.041 for 4293 data .
