Minor products of the pyrolysis (80 deg C, 30 min) of Ru3(CO)10(sp) (sp=2-CH2=CHC6H4PPh2) have been identified as Ru3(CO)12 and the binuclear complex Ru2(μ-η1,η3-MeCC6H4PPh2)(CO)6 (A); the major product is H2Ru3(μ-η2,PHC2C6H4PPh2)(CO)8, which can subsequently be converted into a mixture of Ru3(CO)12 and A at 80 deg C under CO (5 atm).An X-ray study of A (monoclinic, space group Cc, a 36.294(15), b 15.183(9), c 15.724(6) Angstroem, β 115.93 deg, Z=12; 3617 data with I > 2?(I) refined to R=0.056, Rw=0.059) showed the presence of an MeCC6H4PPh2 ligand bridging an Ru2(CO)6 group by an η3-benzylic group to one Ru, the exocyclic carbon forming a ?-bond to the second Ru.
