Synthesis of N1-(2,4-dinitrophenylacetyl)-3-methyl-4-(substituted phenyl-hydrazono(azo)-pyrazolin 5-ones

Fifteen title compounds (IVa-o) have been synthesised by the reaction of 2,4-dinitrophenylacetic acid hydrazide (I) with ethyl 2,3-dioxobutyrate-2-arylhydrazones (II), or by diazo-coupling of N1-(2,4-dinitrophenylacetyl)-3-methylpyrazolin-5-one (III) with aryldiazonium chlorides.Their structures have been assigned on the basis of IR and PMR spectra.The data indicate that compounds (IV) exist in the hydrazone form.
