The first synthesis of phosphorus and arsenic substituted ketenes and its stabilization as novel ligands in transition metal complexes (2a - 5b) succeeded on reacting η2-ketenyl complexes η5-C5H5(CO)W2-C(R)CO> (1a, 1b) with alkyl- or arylhalogenphosphanes and -arsanes.This addition-rearrangement reaction proceeds at least in case of the phosphorus substituted representatives via isolable intermediates, where the phosphinoketenes act as η3-ligands.
