The ruthenium(0) and osmium(0) complexes ArM(PR3)2 (2 - 7, 11, 12) and ArM(PMe3)L (8 - 10, 13) are prepared by the reduction of PF6 and PF6, resp., with NaC10H8 at -78 deg C in THF.The thermally labile and very air-sensitive compounds 2 - 13 react with NH4PF6 or NH4PF6/CF3CO2H to form the stable hydridometall complexes PF6 (14 - 21) and PF6 (22 - 25).On reaction of 2 - 13 with CH3I and subsequent addition of NH4PF6 the compounds PF6 (27 - 34) and PF6 (35 - 38) are obtained.In general, themetal basicity of ArM(PR3)2 increases from ruthenium to osmium and for C6H6Ru(PR3)2 in the order PPh3 a mixture of two products, PF6 (40) and PF6 (41), which can be separated by further reaction of 40 with PF6 to form (PF6)2 (42).
