The present invention relates to a method for producing a quaternary ammonium salt and an electric double layer capacitor using a quaternary ammonium salt produced through the same. The method comprises the steps of: mixing ethyldimethylamine and chloromethylmethylether in a first solvent to be reacted; selectively separating ethyldimethylmethoxymethylammonium chloride which is a white precipitate generated by the reaction; mixing the ethyldimethylmethoxymethylammonium chloride with sodium tetrafluoroborate in distilled water to be treated under an anion exchange reaction, and selectively removing distilled water; mixing a byproduct obtained after the anion exchange reaction with one or more materials selected from methylene chloride and chloroform to be reacted, filtering the same, and separating a precipitate and a solution; and obtaining ethyldimethylmethoxymethylammonium tetrafluoroborate by selectively removing a solvent component from the filtered solution. The quaternary ammonium salt produced according to the present invention may be used as an electrolyte of an electric double layer capacitor, and output capacity is excellent.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
