Synthesis of Heterocycles Using 4-Oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindoles as Biodynamic Molecules

Various heterocyclic compounds have been prepared using 4-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindoles.Conversion of 2-carbethoxy-1,3-dimethyl- and 1,3-dimethyl-4-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindoles (2 and 4) to 5-hydroxymethylene derivatives (5 and 6) followed by their treatment with hydroxylamine and hydrazine gives the corresponding isoxazoles (16-17) and pyrazoles (18-21) respectively.Reaction of 2 with diethyl carbonate furnishes the 5-carbethoxy derivative (27) which on treatment with guanidine affords the pyrimidine derivative (28).Bromination of 2 with triethylammonium perbromide and subsequent treatment of bromo compound (29) with thiourea gives the thiazole derivative (30).None of the compounds shows any noteworthy antibacterial, antifungal or antiamoebic activity.
