Reactions of 2-aryl-1,4-benzoquinones with potassium O-butyl carbonodithioate gave the corresponding 7-aryl-5-hydroxy-1,3-benzoxathiole-2- thiones. In some cases, 7-aryl-5-hydroxy-1,3-benzoxathiol-2-ones were also formed.
