7&α- or 7&β-(4-Phenylbutyl)dihydrocodeine Derivatives

A lipophilic 4-phenylbutyl group was selectively incorporated into the 7α- or 7β-position of the morphine nucleus by use of 6,7-oxymethylene (oxetane) intermediates. 7,7-Bisdihydroisocodeine (2) with dilute NaOH gave 6β,7β-(oxymethylene)
