The regioselective hydroboration of aliphatic internal alkenes remains a great challenge. Reported herein is an iridium-catalyzed hydroboration of aliphatic internal alkenes, providing distal-borylated products in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivity (up to 99:1). We also demonstrate that the C?B bond of the distal-borylated product can be readily converted into other functional groups. DFT calculations indicate that the reaction proceeds through an unexpected IrIII/IrV cycle.

The reaction of long chain alkenes with CO and aniline in the presence of palladium complexes of 1,2-bis-(ditertbutylphosphinomethyl)benzene produces amides with high linear selectivity, with much higher rates and catalyst stability when 2-naphthol and sodium or potassium iodide are added. Unsaturated esters including methyl 10-undecenoate from castor oil give α,ω- ester amides, whilst reactions in THF give N-phenylpyrrolidine.

α,β-Unsaturated acids, through their acid chlorides, react with tritylamine in the presence of triethylamine under mild conditions, to afford in high yield and high regioselectivity the corresponding β,γ- unsaturated tritylamides. Detritylation with TFA generates quantitatively β,γ-unsaturated primary amides. An investigation of this deconjugative isomerization was performed.
