S-Alkylation of 2-CS2)(PPh3)> (M=Pd, Pt) is achieved using stoichiometric amounts of the 'hard' alkylating agents and CF3SO2OMe, while MeI or 1,2-diiodoethane give I and , respectively.Protonation of 2-CS2)(CO)2L2> (L=PMe2Ph, PPh3) affords extremely labile complexes containing the novel η2-CS2H ligand. The first cationic η2:η1-CS2 bridged dinuclear complexes (L=PMe2Ph, PPh3) serve as models for the assumed intermediate in the formation of metallodithiocarboxylato(S,S') metal compounds.
