The reaction of phenol with 3,7-dimethylenebicyclononane in the presence of aluminum diphenyldithiophosphate leads to a mixture of mono-, di-, and tri(3-methyl-1-adamantyl)phenols and 3-methyl-1-adamantyl phenyl ether.Under conditions with an excess of the phenol in relation to the diene the 2-(3-methyl-1-adamantyl)phenol predominates.
