Under the influence of aluminum chloride 1,3-dimethyl-3-phenyl-, 1,4-dimethyl-3-phenyl-, and 1,4-dimethyl-4-phenylcyclohexanecarbonyl chlorides undergo decarbonylation. In nitromethane the acid chlorides mostly form products from intramolecular cycloalkylation, by eliminating CO.In benzene products from intramolecular alkylation in addition to the products from intermolecular acylation and alkylation and in anisole products from intermolecular acylation are also formed.
