Unusual solubility properties of polymethacrylamides as a result of supramolecular interactions with cyclodextrin

(Figure Presented) Clearing things up. Hydrophobic polymers that undergo complex formation with β-cyclodextrin in aqueous solution display reversible thermosensitive solubility. Supramolecular effects lead to a new kind of LCST behavior (LCST = lower critical solution temperature), which is evident from clouding and clearing points at defined temperatures (see picture). The polymer was synthesized by free-radical polymerization of the complexed monomer in water.
