Used in Pharmaceutical Synthesis:
5-Bromo-3-fluorobenzene-1,2-diol is used as a reagent in the synthesis of N-(hydroxy(pyrrolidinyl)propanyl)pyrrolidinecarboxamide derivatives. These derivatives act as glucosylceramide synthase inhibitors, which are important in the treatment of lysosomal storage disorders such as Gaucher disease. The inhibition of glucosylceramide synthase helps to reduce the accumulation of glucosylceramide in cells, thereby alleviating the symptoms associated with these disorders.
Additionally, 5-Bromo-3-fluorobenzene-1,2-diol is utilized in the preparation of 5,5-disubstituted-2-iminopyrrolidine derivatives. These compounds serve as thrombin receptor antagonists, playing a crucial role in the regulation of blood clotting.
