It was shown that derivatives of 2-thiolene 1,1-dioxide have high activity as new dienophiles in the diene synthesis reaction with aliphatic and cyclic 1,3-dienes.The kinetic characteristics were obtained for the reactions of 3-alkylthio-2-thiolen-4-one 1,1-dioxide, 5-benzylidene-2-thiolen-4-one 1,1-dioxide, and 5-benzylidene-3-alkylthio-2-thiolen-4-one 1,1-dioxide with cyclopentadiene.

A new reaction in the sulfolane series, involving the formation of 3-alkylthio-4-oxo-2-sulfolenes from trans-3-alkylsulfinyl-4-hydroxysulfolanes by the action of thionyl chloride, was discovered and investigated.The high reactivity of the new ketones in diene synthesis and condensation with aromatic aldehydes was demonstrated.Sulfolane-sulfoxides with various structures enter into the Pummerer reaction.
