η5-C9H11Fe(CO)2(isobutylene)+BF4- (6), +BF4-, was prepared and used as a protecting group of carbon-carbon double bonds.The complex 6 undergoes ligand exchange with a variety of diolefins to give Fpi(diolefin)+ BF4- complexes, whose subsequent hydrogenations of Pd/C give olefins hydrogenated regioselectively.
