η⁵-C9H11Fe(CO)2(isobutylene)⁺BF4^- (6), ⁺BF4^-, was prepared and used as a protecting group of carbon-carbon double bonds.The complex 6 undergoes ligand exchange with a variety of diolefins to give Fpi(diolefin)⁺ BF4^- complexes, whose subsequent hydrogenations of Pd/C give olefins hydrogenated regioselectively.
