The asymmetric reduction of prochiral α,β-unsaturated ketones with chiral hydride reagents derived from lithium aluminium hydride and (S)-4-(2,6-xylidino)-3-methylamino-1-butanol gives (S)- and (R)-allylic alcohols in high chemical and optical yields, respectively.
