The 2-amino-3-hydroxy(resp. -3-alkoxy)-1-thiochromones 9a or 17a-17d can be obtained by reduction of the 2-nitro or 2-phenylazo derivatives 8a or 11 by reaction of the 2-bromo derivative 16c with secondary amines. Compounds 9a and 16a are starting materials for the synthesis of the fused thiochromones 12a-12e, 13 and 18. In screening tests with mice 8a and 17d affected the central nervous system.
