Synthesis, Structure, and Bonding of Fulvene Complexes of Titanium, Molybdenum, and Tungsten
Bandy, Judith A.,Mtetwa, Victor S. B.,Prout, Keith,Green, Jennifer C.,Davies, Cathryn E.,et al.
, p. 2037 - 2050 (2007/10/02)
The compounds 5-C5H4CR'2)> (M = Mo or W, R = H, R'= Me or Ph; M = W, R = Me, R'= Me or Ph), 5-C5H4CPh2)>, 5-C5H4CPh2)2>, and 5-C5H4CPh2)2(CO)> are described. The crystal structures of the compounds where M = Mo, R = H, R'= Me or Ph; M = W, R = Me, R'= Me or Ph; and 5-C5H4CPh2)2> have been determined and reveal that the exocyclic carbon of the fulvene ligands is strongly bent out of the plane of the C5-ring carbons and bonds directly to the metal. The metal-fulvene bonding is discussed in the light of the structures, the photoelectron spectra, and molecular orbital calculations.
Synthesis, Reactions, and Crystal Structures of Cyclo-η5--(η-arene)-molybdenum and -tungsten Compounds
Green, Malcolm L. H.,Izquierdo, Alejandro,Martin-Polo, Jesus J.,Mtetwa, Victor S. B.,Prout, Keith
, p. 538 - 540 (2007/10/02)
The arene rings of W(η-C6H5Me)2 and Mo(η-C6H6)2 are readily displaced by the fulvenes C5H4=CR2 (R=Me or Ph) giving M(η5:η1-C5H4-μ-CR2)(η-arene), M=Mo or W; when M=Mo and R=Me then treatment with HCl gives the binuclear iC5H4)(μ-Cl2)>2 whose crystal structure has been determined and which is a convenient precursor to mono-cyclopentadienylmolybdenum derivatives.
