Palladium(II) and platinum(IV) halides react with 1,2,3,4,9,9a-hexahydro-6,9a-diarylpyrimidothiazine derivatives (PTA) to form stable complexes of formulae *nH2O (where X = Cl, Br and n = 0, 0.5 or 1.0) and Cl*nH2O (n = 1 or 2) respectively. The spectral, conductance and magnetic data suggest square planar and octahedral stereochemistries around palladium(II) and platinum(IV) ions respectively.Thermal studies indicate the presence of one coordinated water molecule in platinum(IV) complexes and varying numbers of uncoordinated water molecules in platinum(IV) and palladium(II) complexes.Out of the three coordination sites (S, N, NH) in the ligand, only two (S and NH) are involved in coordination to palladium(II) and platinum(IV) ions.
