The new complexes Pt(NopyH)2Cl2, Pt(NmpyH)2Cl2, Pt(BpnH2)Cl2*1.5H2O, Pt(Bpn)*4H2O and Pd(Bpn)*H2O, where NopyH=N-(2-aminophenyl)pyridine-2'-carboxamide, NmpyH=N-(3-aminophenyl)pyridine-2'-carboxamide and BpnH2=N,N'-bis(2'-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,8-naphthalene, have been prepared.Properties, molar conductance measurements and spectral (d-d, IR and 1H-NMR) data are discussed in terms of possible structural types and the nature of the bonding. The deprotonated complexes have N4 square planar coordination, while in the compound Pt(BpnH2)Cl2*1.5H2O the ligand displays an apparent unique trans-bidentate function.NopyH and NmpyH act as monodentate ligands, bonding through the amino group.
