Based on Levamisole (1) several 1-β-substituted-thioethyl-4-phenyl-2-imidazolidinones (3a-e) have been synthesized by cyclizing the corresponding 2-hydroxy-2-phenylethylamines (11a-e) with urea.The related 2-substituted-alkylthio-4-phenyl-Δ2-imidazolines (4a-e) have also been prepared by alkylating 4-phenyl-2-imidazolidinethione (6).Many of these compounds are active in vitro against leishmania donovani and also against several bacteria.
