An enantiomeric pair of steroidal neuromuscular blockers

The synthesis is described of the bis-quaternary ammonium compound 17a-methyl-3β-(N-pyrrolidinyl)-17a-aza-D-homo-5-estrene bis(methiodide) and its enantiomer. In the cat both possess marked non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking activity of short duration and rapid onset. A side effect is vagolytic activity. Both enantiomers are about equipotent.
