Synthesis of 1-ethoxy-7-substituted phenothiazines via Smiles rearrangement is reported. 2-Amino-3-ethoxybenzethiol was condensed with halonitrobenzenes and the substituted diphenylsulphides, so obtained, were converted into substituted formyl derivatives
