Trigonal pyramids: Alternative ground-state structures for sixteen-electron complexes

(Figure Presented) A structural alternative for sixteen-electron ML 4 complexes is the trigonal-pyramidal (TP) form. This has been demonstrated by the preparation of TP complexes of rhodium(I) with three equatorial olefin ligands and one axial silyl ligand (see picture: C black, Rh blue, Si orange).
