, (2008/06/13)
Bithienyl compounds of the following structural formula are phototoxic insecticides and acaricides: STR1 wherein R1 is selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, haloalkenoxy, phenyl, phenoxy, nitro, alkylsulfinyl, alkylsulfonyl, and alkylthio provided R4 is other than hydrogen; R2 is selected from hydrogen and halogen, or R1 and R2 at adjacent positions are joined to form C4 H4 ; R3 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl, thienyl, and phenyl optionally substituted with alkyl, alkoxy, or 1-2 halogen; and R4 is selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl, haloalkenylthio, formyl, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, phenylcarbonyl, dialkylphosphono, and nitro.

Phillips, Richard B.,Herbert, Sue A.,Robichaud, Albert J.
, p. 411 - 418 (2007/10/02)
The cyanide catalyzed 1,4-Michael addition of aldehydes to α,β-unsaturated ketones has been examined with regard to substituent effects.Adjustment of the donor/acceptor relationship aloows for the synthesis of multisubstituted diaryl 1,4-diketones.
