An aromatic amine compound having a specific structure; and an organic electroluminescent element which comprises a pair of electrodes which are a cathode and an anode and one or more organic thin film layers sandwiched between the electrodes, wherein at least one of the organic thin film layers contains the aromatic amine compound. In particular, the organic electroluminescent element, which employs the organic thin film layers, emits light of any of various hues and has high heat resistance, long life, high luminance, and a high luminescent efficiency. The aromatic amine compound, which is used for realizing the element, is a novel compound having high solubility and capable of film formation in a wet process.
