Several dimethoxy or bromo and methoxy 2-nitro naphtho[2,1-b]furan derivatives are prepared by condensation of bromonitromethane with suitably substituted ortho hydroxy naphthaldehydes. The latter are obtained by various suitable methods. These 2-nitro naphtho{2,1-b] furan derivatives are clearly less active against bacteria and protozoa than corresponding monomethoxylated compounds.
