11H-Indenoquinoxalin-11-one thiosemicarbazone (II) reacts with various phenacyl bromides in the presence of anhydrous ethanol and DMF to furnish cyclo products, 11H-indenoquinoxalin-11-one azine (IV) containing 4-substituted-phenyl-3-thiazolin-2-one moiety and not 11H-indenoquinoxalin-11-one azine (III) containing 4-(substituted phenyl)-4-thiazolin-2-one.The structural assignment of the products is based on elemental analyses and spectral (IR, PMR and mass) data.
