Condensation of derivatives of ethoxymethylenecyanoacetic acid with cyanothioacetamide with base catalysis gave butadienethiolates and mercaptopyridines. On interaction with alkyl halides, butadienethiolates are cyclized into alkylthiopyridines, but their reactions with phenacyl bromides give substituted thiazoles. 2005 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
