Reactions of hydrazine and phenyl hydrazine with 5-acetylpyran-2,6-dione (5) yielded diazepinones 8 and 12, respectively.The formation of 12 was via the acid carboxamide 10.The diazepinone 8 was also obtained from 2-pyrones 13 and 14 with hydrazine,
