The asymmetric high-pressure reaction of 2,5-dimethylfuran (1) with 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-glyceraldehyde (4) and chemical transformation of the resulting product 5 to 2-deoxy-D-pentitol derivatives (13, 14, and 15) are described.
