Selenium substituted allyl lithiums react with alkyl halides or benzaldehyde to produce alkylation products in good yield. The regiochemistry of this reaction is found to bear similarities with that of the thio-analogs in that it depends largely on the nature of the alkylating agent and on the reaction conditions; it is further complicated by the occurrence of the allyl selenide rearrangement discovered recently.
