DIMERIZATION OF ARYLSULFONYLACETONITRILES IN BIS(TRIMETHYLSILYL)ACETAMIDE

When heated in bis(trimethylsilyl)acetamide in the absence of basic agents, arylsulfonylacetonitriles dimerize with the formation of 1-arylsulfonyl-1-cyano-2-amino-2-(arylsulfonylmethyl)ethylenes.The data from the PMR and IR spectra of the latter indicate the existence of two stereoisomeric forms and conjugation between the nitrile group and the double bond.A scheme for the dimerization of arylsulfonylacetonitriles with the participation of bis(trimethylsilyl)acetamide is proposed.
