1,3-Butadienyltributylphosphonium Bromide as a Conjunctive Reagent for the Synthesis of 1,3-Dienes from Carbonyl Compounds and Gilman Cuprates

A one-pot non-stereoselective synthesis of 1,3-dienes from (4-bromo-2-butenyl)tributylphosphonium bromide (9), Gilman cuprates, and aldehydes or ketones is described.The yields of the dienes reach 79percent or 63percent when aldehydes and ketones are used, respectively.The pentadienylsilane 10k is accessible similarly in 56 percent yield.
