The first part briefly reports the ionic and radical reactions of satureted hydrocarbons by soluble transition metal complexes.In the second part are described the reactions involving the oxydative addition of a CH bond onto a coordinatively unsaturated organometallic species.The catalytic and selective dehydrogenation of alkanes by rhenium hydrides is presented in the last part.

(PPh3)2ReH7 (I) reacts thermally with propene to give the trihydridodiene complex (PPh3)2(η-CH2=CHMeCH=CHMe)ReH3 (II).In the presence of propane, the photolysis of I and II, respectively, gives the bis-allyl hydride compound (PPh3)2(η-C3H5)2ReH (III).
