Novel ruthenium(II) carbene complexes: Products of the reactions of 1-alkynes with (η6-C6Me6)Cl2Ru(PR3)
Hansen, Heather D.
, p. 4740 - 4755 (2008/10/08)
Two new η6-C6Me6-phosphine-Ru-CH3CN complexes were synthesized and characterized, and their reactions with terminal alkynes were investigated. The results showed that reactions of the neutral complexes (η6

C6Me6RuCl2 (PR3) compounds (I, PR3 = PMe3; II, PR3 = PMePh2) react with AgPF6 in acetone via the intermediates PF6 (IV, V) to give the dinuclear complexes (PF6)2 (VII, VIII).When PF6 (VI) is treated with CH2Cl2, a mixture of products is formed containing the compounds 6-C6H5PPh2)>(PF6)2 (X) and PF6 (XI).The X-ray structural analysis of X shows a symmetrical arrangement of the ruthenium atom to both six-membered rings. The phosphorus atom of the η6-C6H5PPh2 ligand is somewhat bent towards the metal; there is, however, no difference in the Ru-C bond lengths (average value 223 pm) between the metal and the two aromatic ring systems.
