Highly colored, crystalline salts result from the combination of the carbonylmetalates Co(CO)4-, Mn(CO)5- and HFe(CO)4- with perphenyl-phosphonium and sulfonium cations. The unique colors are associated with the interionic

Full title: Reactivity of a bridged vinyl dinuclear iron complex anion, [Fe2(CO)6(μ-CO)(μ-CHCH2)]-, toward dicobalt octacarbonyl: Synthesis of a mixed dinuclear iron cobalt bridged vinyl complex, FeCo(CO)7(μ-CHCH2), and its thermal conversion into a bridged vinylalkylidene mixed trinuclear cluster, FeCo2(CO)9(μ3-CCH2), and an ethylidyne mixed trinuclear cluster, Fe2Co(CO)10(μ3-CCH3). The reaction of [Fe2(CO)7(μ-CHCH2)][P-(C6H 5)4] with Co2(CO)8 at room temperature results in the formation of FeCo(CO)7(μ-CHCH2) (1) as well as the salt clusters [Fe(Co2(CO)9(μ3-CCH3)][P(C 6H5)4] (2) and [Co(C-O)4][P(C6H5)4]. Heating 1 in refluxing hexane results in redistribution to give the trinuclear clusters Co3(CO)9(μ3-CCH3), FeCo2(CO)9(μ3-CCH3) (3), and Fe2Co(CO)9(μ-CO)(μ3-CCH3) (4).
