Regioselective cleavage of methylenedioxy ring in mono- and bis-methylenedioxypolymethoxyxanthones, by alkoxide anions (sodium methoxide and benzyl oxide), in dimethyl sulphoxide, is reported.The reaction provides a convenient entry into 7-glucosyloxy tri- and tetra-methoxyxanthones having immuno-stimulant activity.
